For the last two years, I have been a member of Share Our Strength’s Planning Committee for Taste of the Nation D.C., where D.C.’s best chefs, mixologists, and restaurants unite to end childhood hunger.  Share Our Strength’s local grant beneficiaries include Mary’s Center, D.C. Hunger Solutions, and Capital Area Food Bank.

With one out of three children in D.C. living on the edge of hunger, ending childhood hunger is certainly a critical issue in the District. The Taste of Nation D.C. event raises well over $100,000 each year to fund Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger, which include ensuring that children in need are enrolled in effective federal nutrition programs, investing in community organizations fighting hunger, teaching families how to cook healthy meals on a budget, and building public-private partnerships to end hunger, both nationally and at the state level.

This year’s Taste of the Nation D.C. event, which included over 80 chefs, mixologists, and restaurants, took place on Monday at the National Building Museum.  A few highlights from this year’s event:

4/4/12 update: This year’s event raised over $150,000 to support Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger!
